Linux character device driver for beginners seminar

On Thursday 14/10/2010 Seminar about creation linux devices driver (with on hands training) was ran at Laboratory. More than 10 students participated. Training was prepared and managed by Michael Krinkin.

Seminar topics are:

  • Introduction. Types of linux devices. Linux Kernel Modules. Common terminology discussion. What the difference between user space and kernel space programming/program running.
  • Preparation: setup kernel development environment, some useful kernel parameters

  • Hello world sample. Module building/running procedure discussion

Training about Wt library

Last week OSLL ran hands on training about Wt library. Wt is a C++ library which allows to develop web application similar to developing desktop application. Seminar introduces listeners with main classes of this library, with most popular widgets and with different ways of layouting of widgets on the screen. During this seminar listeners get to know how to handle different events with the signal/slot system and how to connect your compiled application with web-server through FastCGI.

Essentials of Qt development for Symbian

Ivan Bezyazychny ran seminar and hands-on master class about Qt development for Symbian. There was about 10 participants from students and OSLL members. We discovered next topics:

  1. Tools for Symbian development. How to setup environment
  2. What is SIS(X) package
  3. What is application capabilities and how it can be used
  4. Package signing
  5. Deployment to mobile

During master class we were compiling examples and trying them on the device.

Qt training in Nizhny Novgorod May/2010

OSLL ran intensive Qt training in Nizhny Novgorod 13th-14th May 2010.

During two days participants took knowledge and practical experience of Qt Essentials. We met more than 20 participants. Despite there was insufficient equipment most of participants successfully complete the training.

The main topics was

  • Qt history and architecture
  • Widgets and tools overview
  • Programming environment and tool-chains
  • Meta-Object System architecture. Signals and slots techniques
  • Messaging between objects. Memory management
  • 2D graphics

2-day Qt training during 4th Nokia week in Saint-Petersburg

Our Lab managed a Qt training for the beginners. During two days participants took knowledge and practical experience of Qt Essentials. Despite more than 20 participants have been registered only 11 of them successfully completed.

The main topics was

  • Qt history and architecture
  • Widgets and tools overview
  • Programming environment and tool-chains
  • Meta-Object System architecture. Signals and slots techniques
  • Messaging between objects. Memory management.
  • 2D graphics
  • Event handling

OSLL took part in 4th Nokia week and 7th FRUCT conference
